Larger more meal sized platters can be done, these start at around $14 a head and include lamb satay, chicken, seafood etc. These can be quoted on customer’s request.

Red Wall Gallery is situated within The Republic Bar & Café.
The Republic Bar and Cafe has actively supported the arts in Tasmania by regularly exhibiting art works since the venue opened in 1997.
During this time, due to the successful local artists that have exhibited in the Gallery, the Republic Bar has gained attention from the media and international artists as an exciting place to exhibit and view art work.
The major exhibition wall of the gallery is deep red in colour which brings a very particular warmth to the art work. Art shown at the Red Wall Gallery becomes a part of the everyday experience of people - we eat, drink, laugh, kiss, philosophise and argue around the work. People spend time with the exhibitions shown at Red Wall Gallery - and through this interaction the artwork can reveal itself in a way that is different to a traditional white cube space.

Out the back of the Republic Bar & Café, we have a large beer garden. This is both covered and heated, so is perfect all year round.
Although meals can’t be served out in the Beer Garden anymore (due to smoking legislation), this area can be used for a smoke free BBQ area. You can chose from one of our BBQ menus, or alternately you may decide to bring your own food and cook it yourself, for a small fee to cover gas (don’t forget your ‘Kiss The Cook’ apron).
The upstairs function room is a large area available for private functions. This room is perfect for accommodating groups from 50 to 100+ people. There are couches as well as tables and chairs provided that may be arranged to your liking. If you are thinking about food, then why not take a look at our upstairs food menus. There are platters or buffets available upstairs.
If you would like a dance for your shin dig, then why not take advantage of our CD player or bring along your iPod to dance the night away to your own toe tapping playlists. You may also think about organising your own DJ or band. We have a PA available at a small fee.

Tim Rogers is an instantly recognisable name. As the front hip-shaker for YOU AM I for the past 10 years, Tim has earned critical acclaim for his uniquely Australian song writing which has endeared him to a whole generation.

At the Republic Bar & Café we have an extensive menu catering for all tastes and prices.
There is also a specials board which is rotated regularly. Catering for large groups is one of our specialities with an upstairs function room and BBQ area out in the beer garden. You may choose to use one of our well trained chefs to cook a delicious dinner for you and your friends or alternatively you may decide to have a go yourself and hire on a cook yourself basis.
We source the freshest ingredients to put on our menu, doing our best to track down the freshest fish and refusing to use frozen. Our squid and octopus is caught in Tasmanian waters and all other fish is either sourced locally when available or from interstate waters when necessary. We refuse to use fish caught outside of Australian waters.
We use a small local Tasmanian butcher to buy in the best quality beef, lamb and pork in Australia.
All our sauces are made from stocks that are made on the premises in a process that takes up to 10 hours. We do not use powdered mixes!
The chicken dishes on the menu are made with chemical- and hormone-free chickens, and of course we only use free range eggs.
All desserts are made fresh in our kitchen and not bought in.
We also have a large range of red, white and sparkling wines and an extensive range of boutique Australian and imported beers from around the world, and of course all your other favourite beers to go with your meal, so you are bound to find something to match.
Head chef Richard Hensens has worked at the Republic for 10 years, starting as an apprentice working under numerous chefs. Richard also travelled to Sydney on a scholarship, working with Australia’s best, Tetsuya at his award winning restaurant. He now runs a young enthusiastic kitchen and has built a loyal following among locals through the time he has cooked at the Republic Bar and Café.

Here at the Republic Bar & Cafe we cater to many different functions both large and small. We have several different areas to satisfy most tastes and styles.
There is a large upstairs function room that may be hired for a private party. From a 21st birthday celebration, to a wedding, this room has seen it all.
The Beer Garden out the back is very spacious and may be used for both large and small functions. Although this area isn’t as private as upstairs, it is perfect for a BBQ or drinks after work. It is very popular at the end of the year with work groups choosing from one of our BBQ menus.
Alternatively, you may be looking for a smaller space in which you can hold a meeting for your sporting group or book club. The Green Room is a small meeting room that is available free of charge. Although it sometimes resembles the storage room from a large touring band, the Green room can’t be beaten for price.
